Recipe: Energising Beauty Booster Smoothie

blushed-by-five-Energising-Beauty-Booster-Smoothie-recipe-blog-post.jpg

This smoothie is my absolute go-to in the morning, and when I feel my skin needs a bit of calming down or soothing after an acne flare up, I drink this every time. It also seems to give me an incredible boost of energy.

Spirulina is naturally packed with plant-based protein, and phytonutrients including essential vitamins and fatty acids which help prevent damage to our cells and tissues, not to mention the antioxidant, protective anti-ageing benefits. Having one tablespoon a day has me feeling more energised, and my skin more clarified.

Serves TWO full glasses

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 frozen banana

  • 2-3 fresh strawberries (frozen work well too)

  • A handful of frozen raspberries*

  • A handful of romaine lettuce**

  • 1/3 length of a whole cucumber

  • 1-2 sticks of celery

  • 2 handfuls of spinach

  • Juice of half a fresh lemon

  • 1 Tbsp organic spirulina powder

  • 1/2 pitted date or 1 Tbsp maple syrup (optional - for anyone wanting to cut through the taste of the spirulina)

  • 150 ml coconut water

  • 150 ml water

(*Any of your favourite berries can be used instead here)

(**You can substitute this for iceberg lettuce, or any crispy greens you prefer)

PROCESS:

  • Place all solid ingredients into a blender

  • Add the liquids (coconut water and water)

  • Blend until smooth, serve up and enjoy! :)
